Art Department

The art department provides an exciting environment for students to explore a variety of disciplines with in the subject. Projects are set twice a year for years 7, 8, and 9 where students are encouraged to experiment with different media and fill sketch books with highly polished research and designs. Each project is assessed throughout and ends with the making of a final piece which reflects all their hard work in the developing stages of the project. For assessment at the end of Key Stage 3 the project is designed to give students more ownership over their research and sketchbook. This is an essential insight for students considering taking GCSE Art and Design as an option in year 10.

Both GCSE Art and Design and Applied Art and Design are available at Branksome as GCSE options. We look to provide courses to accomodate the talents of students within the school.
We have two large art rooms, which comfortably seat a standard class of 30. Rules and regulations in the department ensure that students experience a clean and safe working environment. The walls are decorated with visual stimuli, guide lines for technical drawing and examples of the high standard of work that we expect students to achieve.

Students supply common equipment, such as pencils, pen, ruler and rubber. The art department is well stocked with specialist materials, and provide sketchbooks for all students.

It is advised that our department is viewed by prospective parents and pupils. Parental contribution and feedback is always welcome.
