Modern Foreign Languages Department Everyone at Branksome School learns French in Years 7 to 9. The skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing are given equal importance and everyone is encouraged to take part and communicate. There are three language classrooms, all groups are taught by specialist teachers. The main course book is “Metro” at Key Stage 3 and “Avantage” at Key Stage 4, but a variety of other resources are also used such as tapes, reading books, flashcards, and ICT. Students not only learn the language, they also learn about the history, food, and customs of the country. Those who opt to continue to study French in years 10 & 11 will work towards the AQA syllabus GCSE. They build on the skills acquired in lower school to become increasingly confident in communicating both orally and in writing.
