Enterprise in Construction 07/03/2005 Pupils in year 10 graphics have recently taken part in an Enterprise in Construction competition. For this they had to investigate jobs and activities within the construction industry. They then had to produce information and designs that led to a model and portfolio evidence for an area of the West park development in Darlington. At various stages during the project a team of construction industry experts assessed the work of the pupils.
The competition culminated in a display and presentation held in Darlington College of Technology on Friday 4th March. Schools taking part included Branksome, Carmel, and Hummersknott, and over 20 teams of pupils were involved.
Branksome School pupils won both 1st, 2nd and 6th place in the competition. The winning team was awarded a prize of £500, and the 2nd place team a prize of £200, money to be spent on new equipment throughout the school.

Branksome pupil David Bogg had the best result of his life last night when he was crowned the Local Hero of 2004. David, 14, was the star of the night at The Northern Echo's annual tribute to the heroes of grassroots sport, which attracted a record number of nominations. He won the judges' hearts for the way he has overcome adversity to help turn the school football team into cup winners. His moment of glory was watched by an audience of 700 people, including Middlesbrough Football Club manager Steve McClaren, Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy, World Cup hero Jack Charlton, former world champion athlete Steve Cram, and Britain's greatest ever paralympian, Tanni Grey-Thompson.
David was heartbroken when he was told by doctors that he could never take part in PE lessons because he needed reconstructive surgery to his foot. But instead of letting it get him down, he asked if he could take over as manager of the school football team.Initially being allowed to become assistant manager to teacher Dave Tucker, he ended up ousting him as boss and taking responsibility for all the team's administration, team selection, training, tactics and team talks. He was nominated for the award by the team members who have grown to have full respect for him.The judges said: "It was an incredibly hard job to select an overall winner from a very strong field. But David's story symbolises what Local Heroes is all about - celebrating the special people who dedicate themselves to grassroots sport."
Former Newcastle United manager Sir Bobby Robson paid tribute to David by video link. Welcome to the Branksome School Website! 18/11/2004 The School has changed dramatically over recent months and is now making rapid progress. All staff are committed to the new vision, which emphasises the expectation that all pupils can achieve their potential, and beyond. Teaching and learning are at the centre of the changes with all teachers expected to plan lessons that will challenge all pupils. Increased investment in the school has been made in relation to classroom / teaching resources. The school has also invested in its staff by implementing the workforce agreement ahead of schedule and by providing extra support and administrative staff.
Branksome is emerging as a major player in community activity, engaging considerable support from local community groups. Branksome is also a collaborative school that welcomes all partners who wish to support its drive to raise standards of achievement. The School is also preparing a bid for Specialist school status for October 2005.
