Organisation of Pupils

Branksome School maintains an atmosphere that is calm, orderly and conducive to classroom work. Pupils are expected to work hard and to conduct themselves at all times in a polite and considerate manner. Responsibility for the Pastoral Care and Guidance lies with the:

Group Tutor - who oversees the day-to-day care of pupils in their group

Year Progress Manager – who monitors the academic progress and personal development of pupils within their year group.

Registration and Absence

Registration periods are from 08.55 to 09.15am and from 13.30 to 13.35pm. At these times Group Tutors pass on information and deal with day-to-day problems and concerns. Pupils who arrive late during the registration periods. must make every effort to obtain a mark from their Form Tutor. Pupils who arrive late (after 09.15am and 13.35pm) must obtain a late mark from the main office before attending lessons.

When a child is absent from school, parents should inform the school on the first day of absence. When the child returns to school, parents are required to provide a note covering the absence. If a pupil is to be absent from school for a period of weeks it is useful to inform the school immediately so that appropriate work may be sent home. Home tuition may be applied for in cases where the period of absence is extended.

Parents should avoid taking their children out of school during term time for whatever reason. If taking pupils out during term time is unavoidable, parents should contact the Headteacher . A decision will then be reached as to whether the absence is regarded as authorised or unauthorised. Absence due to holidays being taken during term time will not be authorised.

School Assemblies

Each year group has 2 assemblies per week. Whole School Assemblies take place at regular intervals throughout the school year.

The assemblies begin each day immediately after registration. Each assembly seeks to celebrate the values the school upholds. Parents' right to withdraw their children from both RE and assemblies are recognised and appropriate provision is made for withdrawn pupils. Parents are asked to inform the Headteacher in writing of their decision to withdraw their children in either case.

Lunchtime Arrangements 2005-6

Year 11 will have first sitting right through the year followed by Year 10 – the other groups will rotate on a weekly basis.

Each Year should report to the entrance doors in the Science Block.

Please note the following points:

  • If any pupil arrives for their lunch out of order then they must have a valid individual pass, signed and dated by the relevant teacher. This will entitle them to get their lunch early.
  • A programme of activities for pupils who do not wish to spend their lunch-time outside will operate throughout the school year, particularly during bad weather.
  • Anyone not conforming to an acceptable level of behaviour at lunchtime will receive a warning, if the misbehaviour continues, the pupil will get a two week ban from lunches. If after they return, if things haven’t improved it will be a half term ban.
Pupils staying for school lunches should not leave the school premises. Only with permission from their parents and only those ppils who have a signed school planner will be allowed off the premises at the beginning of lunch-time.
