The school opened in 1963 and has a current population of 800 pupils and 82 teaching/support and administrative staff.

The building contains specialist rooms for Technology, Science, Information Communication Technology, Drama, Art/Ceramics, Music, Learning Resources and a Health and Fitness Room. In addition the school has specialist bases for Education Support and Learning Support. There are over 33 acres of school grounds with extensive playing fields, tennis courts and a swimming pool which is housed in a separate building alongside the school gymnasium.
