Work related learning at Branksome
Work related learning at Branksome School is basically divided into two aspects: cross curricular work related skills and discrete timetabled work related teaching.

Transferable Work Related Skills Programme

Alongside numeracy, literacy and ICT we deliver the “softer” work related skills of: presentation, time management / planning / organisation, problem solving / decision making, teamworking and research skills. These skills are introduced and reviewed during PSHCE, a new skill each half term and are developed in subject areas throughout the half term. This programme demonstrates the school’s commitment to work related learning.

Work Related Option

Reinforcing our commitment to work related learning is the introduction of a work related option during KS4. All pupils in years 10 and 11 must choose a work related option from the following subjects:

Applied Art & Design (Double Award)

Applied Business (Double Award)

Heath & Social Care (Double Award)

Leisure & Tourism (Double Award)

GNVQ ICT

Craft Construction

Home Economics

There is a balance of academic vocational options with more practical vocational options. Health and Social Care and Leisure and Tourism are delivered in partnership with Darlington College of Technology.

These courses all provide a relevance to the curriculum and encouraging pupils to consider a positive option of a vocational career.
